Rodgers belongs in the category of 21st Century African-Americans who’ve recently emerged to reclaim the heritage of the blues. Often considered a mere commodity on the campus and festival circuit, the blues remains as relevant as ever at a time when prison and poverty have replaced lynching in the Black community. Mo incorporates into his art the elements that distinguish blues from other forms of music: humor, rage, emotion, and a deeply poetic perception of the world, radiantly conveyed by the images he creates.
