The idea behind this project was born at the Parc Floral on the opening week-end of the 2010 Paris Jazz Festival, where Gurtu was appearing in the quartet of Jan Garbarek. The personification of hybridization, the Indian-born percussion genius likes nothing better than confronting cultures, musical colors and rhythms. Inviting Santo from Senegal, Sanogo from Ivory Coast and Berby from Reunion Island is a way to show the universality of today’s jazz, with an explosive concert in perspective.
